Sales History Converter

For Midway Dental from 11/2021 to 3/2022

Goal: To create a web app that can import the sales history Excel spreadsheets that Midway's customers can obtain from Midway's competitors. The app collects some customer metadata and then exports an Excel sales quote with Midway's equivalents of the competitor's products and pricing computed to beat what they have paid with that competitor.

My Role: I was the sole developer and worked with Midway's pricing analyst closely to determine the logic, output, and formulae needed.

Approach: Using the product part numbers from the sales history data, matches for competitor's products can be found automatically from manually-created conversions of Competitor->Midway product pairs. This required mining a large amount of already-completed manual conversions to create a database of matches for the competitor SKUs we were given data on from our customers. There were ~80k products that we either had in common with some competitor or had an equivalent for.

The app uses this body of data to pick the best matches for each competitor SKU. It also calculates pricing that allows Midway to be competitive on a quote to the customer to win their business for future purchases of products they have bought before from a competitor. A ranking algorithm helped the system choose the best matches for a competitor's SKU based on the type of customer and their purchasing volume.

Technologies used were Python with Pandas, PHP, AngularJS, T-SQL with MS SQL Server Express, and MS IIS.

Midway E-commerce Site

For Midway Dental from 3/2017 to 9/2022

Goal: To build a better storefront than our major competitors who grossed 50-100X more than us per year.

My Role: I was the Project Lead and Product Owner and worked with all levels of the company on this project as well as developers from multiple vendors, both on- and offshore.

Approach: I chose the platform Oro Commerce based on its price and promise of integrating a CRM and PIM directly with a B2B storefront. This enabled us to stop using the expensive Salesforce CRM and improved Midway's e-commerce capabilities massively.

The new site has all the features you would expect from a modern e-commerce site and is highly customized to fit the business models of Midway and its customers. Having all our data on a unified platform was a huge bonus.

The website was integrated with Midway's Epicor Prophet21 ERP by the consulting company Mindharbor . This gave us both nightly syncs of all item, customer, and sales data and real-time syncs of new orders from the website to our ERP.

Midway Site Redesign

For Midway Dental from 7/2016 to 10/2016

Goal: To update Midway's storefront layout to be responsive and have a modern design.

My Role: I served as sole Front End Developer and Web Designer.

Approach: I created three comps in Adobe Illustrator for management to choose from. I implemented the comp that was chosen as a responsive design for our e-commerce website.

The challenging part of this was the outdated, table-based construction of the site which the vendor gave me zero ability to edit directly. All HTML was generated by ASP in the backend using code which I could not change.

All I had to work with was an enourmous, messy CSS stylesheet and a single javascript file I was allowed to include in every page. A lot of jQuery and turning all table elements into inline blocks accomplished most of our goals. I was able to add new features using ajax to communicate with microservices I created.

The company grew 50%/year, two years running with this site design.

Dentist Templates

For Midway Dental from 6/2015 to 12/2015

Goal: To create a library of responsive website templates that Midway's customers could choose from and have us customize. These templates were targeted toward dental practices.

My Role: I worked as a Web Designer and Front End Developer alongside Midway's Graphic Designer.

Approach: We created comps in Adobe Illustrator and then I implemented the comp as a responsive example site.

Technologies used were Adobe Illustrator, HTML5, CSS, and jQuery

Midway Order Exporter

For Midway Dental from 9/2022 to 11/2022

Goal: To export all orders that come into Midway's ERP to its new owner's ERP for fulfillment.

My Role: I served as sole developer.

Approach: I used Python with Pandas and T-SQL to write the script that extracted the new orders from Midway's Epicor Prophet21 ERP database and formatted them for import into Henry Schein, Inc's ERP. Henry Schein specified the export format and I worked with them to update and run it throughout the two-month acquisition process.

This was a mission-critical project for ensuring a smooth acquisition. Henry Schein wanted to acquire Midway's customer base and that meant losing or mangling orders during the transition was unacceptable. I built the script to ensure it would only import each order once and to be bullet-proof.

The script was simple, but it also worked flawlessly during the critical time period where it was needed.

Midway Phone App

For Midway Dental from 2/2015 to 6/2015

Goal: To create a phone app for iOS and Android that would track and manage a dental office's purchases from Midway.

My Role: I served as sole developer.

Approach: I chose to make the app using Adobe Air since it was one of the few frameworks then that compiled an app for both iOS and Android. I also knew the propietary language from using Adobe Flash since Air used Actionscript.

Air preferred XML for communication so I made a PHP/MySQL backend to handle the logic of user and order management and it bundled that into XML. Item, customer, and order data came from connecting to the Epicor Prophet21 ERP's database.

Working with the sales representatives and a few select customers, we created an app that let a dental office manage their inventory. They could place orders with Midway through the app and the office's inventory in the app would automatically replenish. They could also set up automatic ordering suggestions with min/max parameters for when items ran low in their office's inventory.

Items that were used by the office would be scanned through the app using QR codes and labels in order to decrement the office's inventory.
